in the Basement of Jeff and Debbie Sotzen
Narrator: Navona Caminsky
Ghost: Jeffrey Caminsky
Ghoul: Jeffrey Sotzen
(Upstairs in a darkened room lit by single candle. Halloween decorations witches, ghosts, etc. loom in background. Scouts are seated around table; Narrator is seated behind candle)
NARRATOR: Halloween a night of gruesome ghosts and ghastly reminders that some things exist which can never be seen. Or so some people say.
But in this day and age, we know that nothing is more frightening than our imagination. Ghosts and ghouls and goblins exist only in our minds....
Or do they? Let's take a little trip into the unknown and find out.
(Narrator leads den towards basement; low moan sounds from downstairs, and fan blows wind up from darkened basement)
NARRATOR: Stop! the spirits of the imagination are telling us that not just anyone can enter their world. The world of darkness requires us to see nothing but darkness. So, you know what that means ?
(Narrator asks for suggestions)
NARRATOR: I think it means that we should all go down BLINDFOLDED!! Is anybody too scared to do that?
(Narrator encourages any scout who is reluctant to join in; all except narrator put on blindfold)
NARRATOR: All right -- everybody join hands; be careful coming down the stairs.
(Fade in sound effects tape)
(Various noises sound from darkness, as scouts come down stairs; Narrator goes first, to break anyone's fall taking care not to trip herself)
NARRATOR: We're in the Underworld, now, the World of Darkness. Let's see where the Spirits lead us. Careful now don't trip on anything.
(Scouts step carefully into basement, into spider webs)
NARRATOR: There's no telling what we might find in a dark, mysterious place like this! We might find spiders bats or even GHOSTS!!
NARRATOR: What was that?
GHOST: (Laughs diabolically)
NARRATOR: Oh, no
GHOST: Yes I am the Ghost of the Darkness.
NARRATOR: The Ghost of the Darkness? What does that mean?
GHOST: That means I am in charge of all creepy-crawly things -- the things that reach out to GRAB! you in the darkness, when you're least expecting it.
NARRATOR: Goodness! Are you an evil ghost?
GHOST: (Laughs fiendishly; begins loud plodding of approach)
NARRATOR: I said are you an evil ghost?
GHOST: (Laughs fiendishly chains rattle loudly as he gets closer)
NARRATOR Oh, no let's move along but slowly, slowly. There are many dangers here for we all know that SEWER WORMS hatch out in caves.
(Scouts move across squishy mat; sewer worms descend; bat flies by ears)
(Suddenly, loud chains rattle, and sound of smashing glass brings group to a halt)
NARRATOR: Let's get out of here!!
ARRATOR: Oh no
GHOUL: I am Sheba, the devish Ghoul of the Night. (Shrieks insanely).
NARRATOR: The Ghoul of the Night?
GHOUL: I make all the loud NOISES that make you jump when it's dark -- all the screeches and howls in the distance, and the bumpings and creekings that you hear when everyone is asleep.
GHOUL: Just remember -- we are with you whenever the lights go out! (Diabolic laughter). NARRATOR: Are you all still with me? Well, let's keep going. There has to be a way out someplace.
(Chains rattle, doors creak, other sundry sounds of deviltry)
(Light from upstairs comes on)
NARRATOR: I see a light -- it looks like its showing us the way out. Let's go -- but be careful. We don't want to trip and let the Ghosts get us.
(Scouts go toward stairs)
NARRATOR: Take off your blindfolds now and don't look back!!
(Scouts hurry up the stairs and return to table, where snacks are waiting)
